She served as an anchor and reporter for WCNC 36 in Charlotte, North Carolina, where she worked for eight years. Her journalism career was marked by her advocacy for domestic violence victims following the murder of her friend and colleague Alice Morrin. French collaborated with Connecticut legislators to make 911 texting available statewide, reflecting her commitment to public safety.

French's background includes participation in beauty pageants; she won the Miss Arkansas Teen USA title in 2004 on her first attempt and went on to compete in the Miss Teen USA 2004 pageant.
