Virginia Elizabeth Geena Davis, born on January 21, 1956, is an American actor known for her work across film and television. Her career began with her debut in the satirical romantic comedy Tootsie in 1982 and included early box office successes such as the science-fiction horror film The Fly in 1986. She gained prominence with the fantasy comedy Beetlejuice in 1988 and received critical acclaim for her role in the romantic drama The Accidental Tourist, which earned her an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. Davis further established herself as a leading actress with the road film Thelma & Louise in 1991, earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress, and the sports film A League of Their Own in 1992, which garnered a Golden Globe Award nomination. Her career faced a downturn following the box office failure of Cutthroat Island in 1995.
