Sam West was an American professional baseball center fielder who played for multiple teams in Major League Baseball from 1927 to 1942. Born in Longview, Texas, on October 5, 1904, West was known for his left-handed batting and throwing, and he stood 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighing 165 pounds. Over his sixteen-season career, he maintained a batting average of .299, accumulating 1,838 hits, 75 home runs, and 838 runs batted in over 1,753 games. West demonstrated offensive prowess with a career on-base percentage of .371 and a slugging percentage of .425, while also contributing defensively with a fielding percentage of .983. Notably, he posted a .300 batting average in eight seasons and led American League outfielders in putouts twice, double plays three times, and assists once. West was selected to four All-Star Games during his career. His most productive season was in 1931, when he achieved a career-high .333 batting average along with 43 doubles and 91 RBIs. He was part of the American League All-Star team in 1933, the year he went 6-for-6 in a game against the Chicago White Sox.
