Roy Linwood Clark (April 15, 1933 – November 15, 2018) was an American singer, musician, and television presenter recognized for his contributions to country music. He co-hosted the television show Hee Haw with Buck Owens from 1969 to 1993, reaching a viewership of approximately 30 million. Clark was regarded as an influential figure in the genre, both as a performer and in his role in promoting country music to wider audiences. As a skilled guitarist, banjo player, and fiddler, his instrumental talents had a significant impact on generations of bluegrass and country musicians. Throughout his career, Clark was also known for his versatility, drawing from genres such as classical guitar, Latin music, bluegrass, pop, and country. He achieved success as a country vocalist with hit songs including "Yesterday, When I Was Young" and "Thank God and Greyhound." His prominence extended beyond television, as he frequently guest-hosted The Tonight Show during the 1970s. Clark became a member of the Grand Ole Opry in 1987 and was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2009. In 1994, he published his autobiography titled "My Life;in Spite of Myself," offering insights into his career and personal experiences.
