Rosa Luisa DeLauro, born on March 2, 1943, is an American politician serving as the U.S. representative for Connecticut's 3rd congressional district since 1991. She is a member of the Democratic Party and the dean of Connecticut's congressional delegation since 2013, following the retirement of Senator Joe Lieberman. The district she represents is based in New Haven and encompasses most of its suburbs. DeLauro has held several prominent roles in Congress, including serving as the chair of the House Appropriations Committee for the 117th Congress, starting in 2020, and succeeding Nita Lowey. She became the second woman to hold this position. Additionally, she has been active in party leadership; she co-chaired the House Democratic Steering Committee from 2003 to 2021.
