Robert John Downey Jr. is an American actor and producer born on April 4, 1965. His films as a leading actor have grossed over 14.3 billion dollars worldwide, establishing him as one of the highest-grossing actors of all time. From 2013 to 2015, Downey was the highest-paid actor annually. He is recognized for his versatility across a range of roles and has received numerous awards, including an Academy Award, a Daytime Emmy Award, three Golden Globe Awards, and two British Academy Film Awards. Downey began his acting career at age five in his father Robert Downey Sr.'s film Pound (1970). He gained prominence through teen films such as Weird Science (1985) and Less than Zero (1987), and his portrayal of Charlie Chaplin in the biopic Chaplin (1992) earned him the BAFTA Award for Best Actor and an Oscar nomination. After facing personal challenges related to drug charges and entering rehab, Downey joined the television series Ally McBeal in 2000, earning a Golden Globe award. He was dismissed from the show in 2001 following further arrests but has been sober since 2003.
