Rick Atkinson is an American author and journalist born on November 15, 1952. He has a background in newspaper reporting, editing, and foreign correspondence for The Washington Post. Transitioning to military history, Atkinson has authored eight books that provide narrative accounts of five different American wars. His works include the Liberation Trilogy, which chronicles the American role in the liberation of Europe during World War II; the trilogy concluded with the publication of The Guns at Last Light in May 2013. Atkinson's contributions to journalism and history have been recognized with several awards, including Pulitzer Prizes in both fields. In 2010, he received the Pritzker Military Library Literature Award for Lifetime Achievement in Military Writing, a grant of $100,000 acknowledging his significant influence and expertise in military history.
