He is best known for his portrayal of Corporal Peter Newkirk in the television series Hogan's Heroes. Dawson gained prominence as a regular panelist on the game show Match Game from 1973 to 1978 and served as the original host of the game show Family Feud, hosting the program from 1976 to 1985 and again from 1994 to 1995. Throughout his career, he became recognized for his humor and charismatic hosting style.
