Eric Idle, born on 29 March 1943, is an English actor, comedian, songwriter, musician, screenwriter, and playwright. He gained prominence as a member of the British comedy group Monty Python and was involved in the parody rock band the Rutles. Idle studied English at Pembroke College, Cambridge, and was a participant in Cambridge University Footlights. He achieved widespread recognition in the 1970s through co-creating and acting in the television series Monty Python's Flying Circus, which ran from 1969 to 1974. He also contributed to the films Holy Grail, Life of Brian, and The Meaning of Life alongside other members of the group.
