About Raymond Mearns
Raymond Mearns, born in 1967, is a Scottish actor and comedian originating from Glasgow’s East End. He is best known for his role as Happy Boab in the Scottish comedy sitcom Legit. Mearns received his education at St Andrew’s Secondary School and Glasgow Central College of Commerce and holds a degree in Business. He made his acting debut in 1998 alongside his brother Eddie, portraying the blind twins Troy and Roy Pettifer in the short film Home, which received the Best Short Film award at the 1999 BAFTA Awards. Mearns has appeared in films directed by Ken Loach, including Ae Fond Kiss... and It's a Free World.... He also starred in the film Next Time Ned. His television appearances include a role as a BBC security guard in the 2008 Rab C. Nesbitt Christmas special and diverse characters in the Scottish-BAFTA winning comedy sketch series Limmy's Show. In July 2023, a hiker on the Pacific Crest Trail claimed that Mearns' voice helped save him from a bear attack. In August 2023, Mearns suffered a mini stroke, which led to the cancellation of his performances at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe; comedian Frankie Boyle participated in a benefit show supporting him. Mearns returned to the stage in March 2024 at the Glasgow International Comedy Festival, where he was nominated for the Sir Billy Connolly Spirit of Glasgow award. In July 2024, he filmed scenes for the crime comedy Sharp Instinct: Volume II in Greenock.
