Raghuram Govind Rajan is an Indian economist and the Katherine Dusak Miller Distinguished Service Professor of Finance at the University of Chicago's Booth School of Business. He has held prominent roles in financial institutions, including serving as the Chief Economist of the International Monetary Fund from 2003 to 2006 and as the 23rd Governor of the Reserve Bank of India from 2013 to 2016. During his tenure at the RBI, he also became the Vice-Chairman of the Bank for International Settlements in 2015. Rajan has been recognized for his foresight in financial risk, having warned about potential systemic dangers at the 2005 Federal Reserve annual Jackson Hole conference, three years before the 2008 financial crisis. His warnings were initially considered misguided by some critics but gained recognition for their prescience following the crisis. Rajan's contributions to finance have been acknowledged through several accolades, including the inaugural Fischer Black Prize awarded in 2003 and the Financial Times/Goldman Sachs Business Book of the Year award in 2010 for his book Fault Lines: How Hidden Fractures Still Threaten the World Economy. His influence extends beyond academia and policy, earning him a place on Time's list of the top 100 influential people in 2016.
