Philip Seymour Hoffman: podcast appearances and interviews

Philip Seymour Hoffman was an American actor recognized for his supporting character roles and leading performances in numerous films and theatrical productions. His career spanned from the early 1990s until his death in 2014. Hoffman studied acting at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts and initially gained recognition through supporting roles in films such as Scent of a Woman, Boogie Nights, Happiness, The Big Lebowski, Magnolia, and The Talented Mr. Ripley. He gradually took on leading roles, most notably winning the Academy Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of Truman Capote in the film Capote. He received additional Oscar nominations for performances in Charlie Wilson's War, Doubt, and The Master. Hoffman primarily appeared in independent films but also participated in Hollywood blockbusters like Twister and Mission: Impossible III. One of his final roles was as Plutarch Heavensbee in The Hunger Games series. In 2010, he made his debut as a filmmaker with the feature film Jack Goes Boating. Hoffman was also an accomplished theater actor and director, joining the off-Broadway LAByrinth Theater Company in 1995 where he directed, produced, and performed in numerous stage productions. He received Tony Award nominations for his performances in Broadway revivals of True West, Long Day's Journey into Night, and Death of a Salesman. Hoffman was known to have struggled with drug addiction and died from an acute mixed drug intoxication in 2014. He was remembered for the nuance, depth, and humanity he brought to his roles, and in 2024 was voted the greatest actor of the 21st century in a ranking by The Independent.
