Pete Murray: podcast appearances and interviews

Peter Murray James, known professionally as Pete Murray, is a British radio and television presenter and actor born on 19 September 1925. He built a notable career with the BBC, working across various stations including the Light Programme, Radio 1, Radio 2, and Radio 4. In the 1950s, Murray was among Britain’s pioneering pop music television presenters. He hosted the rock and roll programme Six-Five Special from 1957 to 1958, appeared regularly on the panel of Juke Box Jury from 1959 to 1967, and hosted Top of the Pops from 1964 to 1969. Murray was also a recurring figure in the BBC's coverage of the Eurovision Song Contest. After retiring in 2003, he made occasional returns to broadcasting, most notably for a special on Boom Radio on Boxing Day in 2021, and again in 2022 when he co-presented a two-hour show with David Hamilton. His influence extends to many other radio personalities; presenter David Hamilton has credited Murray as an influence, as has disc jockey Kenny Everett, who admired his ad-libbing style and warmth.
