Patti Ann LuPone, born on April 21, 1949, is an American actress and singer recognized for her leading performances on Broadway and the West End stage. She made her professional debut with The Acting Company in 1972 and soon gained acclaim for her portrayals of bold, resilient women in musical theater. LuPone has received numerous awards for her performances, including three Tony Awards, two Laurence Olivier Awards, and two Grammy Awards. Her Tony Awards include two for Best Actress in a Musical for her roles as Eva Perón in Evita and as Rose in Gypsy, as well as one for Best Featured Actress for her role as Joanne in the revival of Company. She has been nominated for additional Tony Awards for performances in The Robber Bridegroom, Anything Goes, Sweeney Todd, Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, and War Paint.
