John Michael Osbourne, known as Ozzy Osbourne, was an English singer, songwriter, and media personality born on December 3, 1948. He is widely recognized as a pioneer of heavy metal music and earned the nickname the Prince of Darkness. Osbourne co-founded the band Black Sabbath in 1968 and served as their lead vocalist during the recording of their first eight studio albums, including Black Sabbath, Paranoid, and Master of Reality. His tenure with the band lasted until 1979 when he was dismissed due to issues related to alcohol and drug use. In the 1980s, Osbourne launched a solo career, forming a band with Randy Rhoads and Bob Daisley, and releasing albums such as Blizzard of Ozz and Diary of a Madman. Throughout his solo career, he produced a total of thirteen studio albums, with multiple releases achieving multi-platinum status in the United States. Osbourne's career was marked by both musical success and controversy, with accusations of Satanism and provocative antics both on and off stage. He reunited with Black Sabbath on several occasions, including a final tour that concluded in 2017. Known for his significant influence, Osbourne sold over 100 million albums and received numerous honors, including induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as both a member of Black Sabbath and as a solo artist.
