Nick Hornby is an English writer born on 17 April 1957. He is known for his memoir Fever Pitch published in 1992 and his novels High Fidelity released in 1995 and About a Boy in 1998. These works have been adapted into feature films. Hornby's writing often explores themes related to music, sport, and the aimless or obsessive tendencies of his characters. His books have achieved significant commercial success, with over 5 million copies sold worldwide as of 2018. In 2004, he was recognized in a BBC poll as the 29th most influential person in British culture. Hornby has also received nominations for the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for his work on the films An Education in 2009 and Brooklyn in 2015.
