Nels Courtney Cline, born on January 4, 1956, is an American guitarist and composer known for his work across multiple genres. Since 2004, he has been a guitarist for the band Wilco. In the 1980s, Cline was active in the jazz scene, often collaborating with his twin brother Alex, a percussionist. His musical work spans punk and alternative rock genres, where he has collaborated with artists such as Carla Bozulich and the Geraldine Fibbers, Mike Watt, and Thurston Moore. Cline leads the Nels Cline Singers, the Nels Cline Trio, and the Nels Cline 4, showcasing his versatility as a bandleader and improviser. His proficiency and influence have been recognized widely, and in November 2011, he was ranked as the 82nd greatest guitarist of all time by Rolling Stone magazine.
