Michael Pettaway Tomlin, born on March 15, 1972, is an American football coach known for his tenure as head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers from 2007 to 2025. During his 19 seasons in this role, Tomlin achieved the longest streak in NFL history for never finishing a season with a losing record. At the time of his resignation, he was the longest-tenured head coach across the four major North American sports leagues. His coaching career in the NFL began as a defensive assistant with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Minnesota Vikings before joining the Steelers. As head coach, Tomlin led the team to 13 playoff appearances, eight division titles, three AFC Championship Games, two Super Bowl appearances, and a Super Bowl victory in Super Bowl XLIII. Notably, he became the youngest head coach to win the Super Bowl at age 36 and tied with Chuck Noll for the most regular-season wins in Steelers franchise history. In April 2026, it was announced that Tomlin would transition to a role as an analyst on NBC's Football Night in America.
