Mike Thorne, born on 25 January 1948, is an English author and growth mentor with a background rooted in music production and engineering. Originally a musician who began playing the piano at age 10, Thorne pursued studies in physics at Hertford College, Oxford, during the late 1960s. His early career included working as a tape operator in London, where he collaborated with bands such as Deep Purple. Transitioning into the music industry, Thorne served as a music journalist and A&R representative before establishing himself as a record producer in the late 1970s. Throughout his production career, he has worked across various genres including punk, post-punk, jazz fusion, and pop, producing albums for notable artists such as Roger Daltrey, John Cale, Bronski Beat, Soft Cell, Nina Hagen, Laurie Anderson, The Reds, and Soft Machine. His significant contributions include producing the first three albums by the band Wire, namely Pink Flag, Chairs Missing, and 154. Thorne also produced Soft Cell’s hit cover of Tainted Love, which became a UK number one single and sold over 1.35 million copies in the UK. Additionally, he contributed electronic elements to Michael Tippett's opera New Year. Leveraging his extensive experience in creative industries, Thorne has transitioned into roles focused on authoring and mentoring within the growth and development space.
