Michael Thomas Modano Jr. is a former professional ice hockey player from the United States. Born on June 7, 1970, he primarily played as a center and spent the majority of his career with the Minnesota North Stars and Dallas Stars franchises. He was drafted first overall by the North Stars in 1988 and became the all-time goal-scoring leader among American-born players in NHL history. Modano played a key role in the Stars' success, leading them to two consecutive first-place regular season finishes in 1998 and 1999, culminating in winning the Stanley Cup in 1999. Towards the end of his career, he played his final season with his hometown team, the Detroit Red Wings. Renowned for his influence in popularizing ice hockey in Texas and the southern United States, Modano is considered one of the greatest American-born ice hockey players of all time. He has been recognized with numerous honors, including induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2014 and the IIHF Hall of Fame in 2019.
