Mike Dillon: podcast appearances and interviews

Mike Dillon, also known as Mike D, is an American percussionist, vibraphonist, bandleader, and vocalist born in San Antonio, Texas. He has contributed to a diverse range of musical projects and groups, including Critters Buggin, Les Claypool's Fancy Band, and Garage A Trois. Dillon has performed with numerous musicians and bands such as Ani DiFranco, Galactic, Brave Combo, Karl Denson's Tiny Universe, Marco Benevento, Clutch, Claude Coleman Jr., and several New Orleans musicians including Kevin O'Day, Johnny Vidacovich, and James Singleton.

Dillon's fascination with percussion developed during his teenage years, inspired by his love for the band Rush. His early performance career included playing with local Dallas and Denton bands in the 1980s such as Ten Hands. Throughout the 1990s, he led the Dallas-based band Billy Goat and later performed with Kansas City-based Malachy Papers and Austin's Hairy Apes BMX. In 2006, he launched Mike Dillon's Go-Go Jungle, a project that features members from his previous bands and explores a blend of styles; they released a second album titled Rock Star Bench Press in 2009. Dillon also composed most of the music for Garage A Trois's 2009 album Power Patriot.

As a performer, Dillon has collaborated with saxophonist Skerik in various configurations including the trio The Dead Kenny G's, touring with other musicians such as Brian Haas and Brad Houser as Critters Buggin Trio, and as part of Illuminasti and The Fancy Trio with Les Claypool. He is married to artist Peregrine Honig and resides in Kansas City and New Orleans, though his busy touring schedule often takes him away from home.
