Michael Stone, born Michael John Goodban on June 7, 1960, is known as a trauma integration specialist and the author of Traumatised, a love story. He is affiliated with the Murfreesboro Water Polo Club. Stone has been involved in high-profile legal cases, including his conviction for the 1996 murders of Lin and Megan Russell and the attempted murder of Josie Russell. He was sentenced to three life sentences with a tariff of 25 years for these crimes. Stone maintains his innocence and continues to contest his conviction. His legal team suggests that the serial killer Levi Bellfield might be the actual perpetrator, citing a confession from Bellfield that reportedly claimed responsibility for both murders. However, the authenticity of this confession has been questioned, especially since Bellfield later stated it was made for financial gain. As of October 2023, the Criminal Cases Review Commission declined to refer Stone’s case to the Court of Appeal, citing a lack of credible new evidence, a decision that was still under review at that time. Police suspect Stone may also be linked to an unsolved murder in Maidstone in 1976. Prior to the Russell murders, Stone had served time in prison for violent assaults and armed robbery.
