Matthew Rhys is a Welsh actor born on November 8, 1974. He has appeared on stage and screen, earning multiple awards and nominations throughout his career. Rhys is a recipient of a Primetime Emmy Award and has been nominated for two Actor Awards, three BAFTA Awards, and four Golden Globe Awards. He gained recognition for his television roles as Kevin Walker in the family drama series Brothers & Sisters from 2006 to 2011 and as Philip Jennings in the spy drama series The Americans from 2013 to 2018. His portrayal of Philip Jennings in The Americans earned him the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 2018. Rhys has received further Emmy nominations for his performances in the HBO comedy series Girls (2017), the HBO mystery series Perry Mason (2020–2023), the Netflix crime thriller miniseries The Beast in Me (2025), and the Apple TV+ comedy-horror series Widow's Bay (2026). In film, he has appeared in productions such as Titus (1999), Deathwatch (2002), The Edge of Love (2008), The Post (2017), and A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood (2019).
