Marshall Crenshaw: podcast appearances and interviews

Marshall Howard Crenshaw, born on November 11, 1953, is an American musician, singer, songwriter, and guitarist. He is best known for hit songs such as Someday, Someway, which reached the top 40 in the United States in 1982, Cynical Girl, and Whenever You're on My Mind. In addition to his solo work, Crenshaw is the co-author of the song Til I Hear It from You by the Gin Blossoms, one of the most prominent radio hits of the 1990s. His musical influences include classic soul music and Buddy Holly, whom he was often compared to early in his career. Crenshaw portrayed Buddy Holly in the 1987 film La Bamba. Born in Detroit, Michigan, he initially performed in the musical Beatlemania before releasing his self-titled album in 1982. Despite the commercial success of his debut album, he was unable to replicate this with his follow-up albums, including Field Day in 1983. Crenshaw has also written songs for other artists, such as Kirsty MacColl and the Gin Blossoms. According to Trouser Press, although he was first seen as a successor to Buddy Holly, he proved to be too talented and original to be confined to that role, establishing himself as an artist of unique talent.
