Mark M. Zandi is an Iranian-American economist who serves as the chief economist of Moody's Analytics. In this role, he directs economic research and focuses on macroeconomics, financial markets, and public policy. Zandi analyzes the economic impacts of government spending policies and the responses of monetary policy. He is considered a trusted advisor to policymakers and has testified before Congress on various topics, including the economic outlook, fiscal challenges, fiscal stimulus, and financial regulatory reform. His research interests also include mortgage finance reform and the determinants of foreclosure and personal bankruptcy. Notably, Zandi was among the first economists to warn of an impending financial crisis in 2005, which contributed to the 2008 financial crisis.
