About Mark Schultz

Mark Philip Schultz, born on October 26, 1960, is an accomplished American freestyle wrestler and an academic. He is recognized for winning an Olympic gold medal, as well as securing three NCAA championships and two World titles during his wrestling career. In 1995, Schultz was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame as a Distinguished Member and is also honored in the San Jose Sports Hall of Fame, the California Wrestling Hall of Fame, and the San Mateo Peninsula Sports Hall of Fame. He and his older brother, Dave Schultz, both achieved the notable feat of winning gold medals at the same Olympics in 1984. They are distinguished as the only American brothers to win both World and Olympic gold medals and have accumulated more NCAA, U.S. Open, World, and Olympic titles than any other American sibling duo in history. After retiring from wrestling, Schultz briefly participated in mixed martial arts, competing in UFC IX under no-holds-barred rules against Gary Goodridge. Currently, he serves as the chair in intellectual property and the director of the Intellectual Property and Technology Law Program at the University of Akron School of Law. He is affiliated with the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, contributing his expertise in law and intellectual property.
