About Mark Kaplan
Mark Kaplan, born on December 30, 1953, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, is an American violinist and educator. He studied at the Juilliard School under Dorothy DeLay and has established a distinguished career both as a performer and a professor. Kaplan has performed in all the principal cities of Europe, including London, Berlin, Paris, Vienna, Prague, Zurich, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, and Milan. His international engagements extend to the Far East and Australia, and he has appeared for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation with the Queensland Orchestra in Brisbane. In the United States, he has played with nearly every major orchestra, including the New York Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Cleveland Orchestra and Philadelphia Orchestra, among others. He has also collaborated with numerous eminent conductors and appeared at major festivals such as Aspen, Blossom, Chautauqua, Grant Park, Ravinia, Saratoga, and Wolf Trap. Kaplan has maintained an active recording career with a diverse repertoire that encompasses works by Bach, Berg, Stravinsky, and others. His recordings include solo violin works, concertos, and chamber music. Since 2005, he has been a professor of violin at Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music, after prior tenure at UCLA. His career continues to reflect his reputation as one of the leading violinists of his generation.
