Marcus Kliewer: podcast appearances and interviews

Marcus Kliewer is a Canadian author of horror fiction who received the Kobo Emerging Writer Prize in 2026 for his debut novel We Used to Live Here. Originally from Kelowna, British Columbia, with family roots in Steinbach, Manitoba, he moved to Vancouver after high school. His early career included work in the film industry in crew roles and as a stop-motion animator. Notably, he served as an editor on Amanda Strong's 2018 short film Biidaaban (The Dawn Comes) and directed the 2020 animated short film Lot. Following the COVID-19 pandemic's impact on film production and the receipt of the Canada Emergency Response Benefit, Kliewer began writing short horror fiction for the Reddit community r/nosleep. His original Reddit story We Used to Live Here gained popularity, attracting interest from Netflix in 2021 and winning the r/nosleep Scariest Story of the Year award. This success led to a three-book publishing deal and a film development deal for his short story The Caretaker. His debut novel We Used to Live Here was published in June 2024, followed by The Caretaker in April 2026. An audiobook titled Remain Seated, featuring three of his short stories, is scheduled for release in September 2026.
