Maggie O'Farrell is an Irish-British novelist born in 1972. Her debut novel, After You'd Gone, received the Betty Trask Award, and her subsequent work The Hand That First Held Mine won the Costa Novel Award in 2010. She has been recognized multiple times for her literary contributions, including shortlisted nominations for the Costa Novel Award for Instructions for a Heatwave in 2014 and This Must Be The Place in 2017. Her memoir I Am, I Am, I Am: Seventeen Brushes with Death achieved popular acclaim, reaching the top of the Sunday Times bestseller list. O'Farrell's novel Hamnet was awarded the Women's Prize for Fiction in 2020 and also received the fiction prize at the 2020 National Book Critics Circle Awards. She co-adapted Hamnet for film with Chloé Zhao in 2025, earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay.
