Madam C. J.. Walker was an American entrepreneur, philanthropist, and social activist born as Sarah Breedlove on December 23, 1867. She is recognized as the first woman to become a self-made millionaire in the United States, holding a record in the Guinness Book of World Records. Walker built her fortune by developing and marketing a line of cosmetics and hair care products tailored for Black women through her company, Madam C. J. Walker Manufacturing Company. Her success in business made her a prominent figure and a trailblazer for African-American entrepreneurship. In addition to her commercial achievements, Walker was known for her philanthropy and activism, providing financial support to organizations such as the NAACP and serving as a patron of the arts.
