Lloyd Craig Blankfein, born on September 20, 1954, is an American investment banker who has played a significant role at Goldman Sachs. He served as the company's chairman and chief executive officer from 2006 until the end of 2018 and has been the senior chairman since 2019. Prior to becoming CEO, he was the president and chief operating officer from 2004 to 2006, working under then-CEO Henry Paulson. Blankfein's career at Goldman Sachs began in 1982 when he joined J. Aron & Co., a commodities trading firm acquired by Goldman in 1981. He led Goldman Sachs's currency and commodities divisions from 1994 to 1997, subsequently being named heir apparent.
