About Lloyd Blankfein
Lloyd Craig Blankfein, born on September 20, 1954, is an American investment banker who has played a significant role at Goldman Sachs. He served as the company's chairman and chief executive officer from 2006 until the end of 2018 and has been the senior chairman since 2019. Prior to becoming CEO, he was the president and chief operating officer from 2004 to 2006, working under then-CEO Henry Paulson. Blankfein's career at Goldman Sachs began in 1982 when he joined J. Aron & Co., a commodities trading firm acquired by Goldman in 1981. He led Goldman Sachs's currency and commodities divisions from 1994 to 1997, subsequently being named heir apparent. His leadership coincided with the 2008 financial crisis, during which he was both praised and criticized for his management of the firm, gaining prominence as a public figure. Under his tenure, Goldman Sachs benefited from federal monetary policies and government bailouts, which allowed it to expand and become the second largest investment bank in the United States as competitors faltered or were acquired. Blankfein has been recognized as one of the most influential people in the world by Time magazine twice and received the Financial Times Person of the Year award in 2009. As of July 2015, his net worth was estimated at 1.1 billion dollars, and in 2018 his salary was approximately 24 million dollars.
