About Lionel Richie
Lionel Brockman Richie Jr. is an American singer, songwriter, musician, record producer, and television personality. He gained prominence in the 1970s as a member of the Motown group Commodores, where he was the co-lead singer and songwriter of hit singles such as Easy, Sail On, Three Times a Lady, and Still before pursuing a solo career. In 1980, he wrote and produced the chart-topping single Lady for Kenny Rogers. His 1981 duet with Diana Ross, Endless Love, became one of the best-selling singles of all time and was a significant hit for both artists. Richie launched his solo career with his eponymous debut album in 1982, which sold over four million copies and produced notable singles including You Are, My Love, and Truly. His subsequent albums, including Can't Slow Down released in 1983, achieved critical and commercial success, with the latter reaching number one on the US Billboard 200 and selling over 20 million copies globally. During his career, Richie co-wrote the charity single We Are the World with Michael Jackson, which sold over 20 million copies, and released other successful singles such as Hello and Say You, Say Me. He has won four Grammy Awards, including Song of the Year and Album of the Year, and received multiple honors including induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Black Music & Entertainment Walk of Fame. Richie has sold over 90 million records worldwide and has been recognized with awards such as the Songwriters Hall of Fame’s Johnny Mercer Award and the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song. Additionally, he has served as a judge on the television series American Idol.
