Lawrence Maxwell Krauss, born on May 27, 1954, is a Canadian-American theoretical physicist and cosmologist. He has held academic positions at Arizona State University, Yale University, and Case Western Reserve University. In 2008, Krauss founded the Origins Project at Arizona State University, which aimed to explore fundamental questions about the universe; he served as the project's director. He is known for advocating public understanding of science and promotes skepticism of superstition and religious dogma. Krauss is an author of several bestselling books including The Physics of Star Trek and A Universe from Nothing. He has also chaired the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists Board of Sponsors. Krauss retired from his professorship at ASU in May 2019. He is currently President of The Origins Project Foundation, Inc., an organization established in 2019. Krauss hosts The Origins Podcast with Lawrence Krauss and maintains a blog titled Critical Mass. His career has also been marked by scrutiny over allegations of sexual misconduct, leading to the non-renewal of his directorship at ASU and his retirement from academia. Additionally, he has faced criticism related to his association with Jeffrey Epstein, including organizing a 2006 physics conference funded by Epstein's foundation, receiving funding from Epstein for an academic project, publicly defending Epstein after his 2008 conviction, and maintaining social contact and correspondence with him over many years.
