About Kurt Angle

Kurt Steven Angle, born on December 9, 1968, is an American retired professional wrestler and former amateur wrestler renowned for his accomplishments in both sports and entertainment. He first gained recognition by winning a gold medal in freestyle wrestling at the 1996 Summer Olympics, an achievement he accomplished despite competing with a broken neck. Throughout his amateur career, Angle earned numerous accolades, including being a two-time NCAA Division I Wrestling Champion at Clarion University of Pennsylvania and winning gold medals at the 1995 World Wrestling Championships and the 1996 Summer Olympics. He is one of four individuals to win the Junior Nationals, NCAA championships, World Championships, and Olympic gold, and in 2006, he was named the greatest shoot wrestler of all time by USA Wrestling. In recognition of his impact, he was inducted into the International Sports Hall of Fame in 2016. Angle transitioned to professional wrestling in 1996, signing with the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) in 1998. Despite initial reservations about the scripted nature of pro wrestling, his innate athletic ability quickly became evident. He made his televised debut in 1999 and soon captured the European and Intercontinental Championships. He won the King of the Ring tournament in 2000 and secured the WWE Championship four times. Additionally, he held the WCW Championship and the World Heavyweight Championship, becoming the tenth wrestler to achieve the WWE Triple Crown and the fifth to attain the WWE Grand Slam. After leaving WWE in 2006, Angle joined Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA), where he became a record six-time TNA World Heavyweight Champion and a two-time King of the Mountain. He also competed internationally, holding the IWGP Heavyweight Championship in Japan. Throughout his wrestling career, Angle amassed over 21 championships and was inducted into both the WWE Hall of Fame in 2017 and the TNA Hall of Fame in 2013.
