Keith Brown is a Scottish politician and co-owner and chef at The Toast Factory. He has served as Depute Leader of the Scottish National Party since 2018. Brown has had a distinguished career in public service, including roles in the Scottish Parliament and cabinet positions. He was first elected to the Scottish Parliament in 2007 and has represented the Ochil and subsequently the Clackmannanshire and Dunblane constituencies. Throughout his political career, he has held various ministerial roles, including Minister for Schools and Skills, Minister for Transport and Infrastructure, and Minister for Housing and Veterans. In 2014, Brown ran in the SNP deputy leadership election but was not successful. He later served as Cabinet Secretary for Infrastructure, Investment and Cities and, from 2016 to 2018, as Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Jobs and Fair Work. Following his election as Depute Leader of the SNP in 2018, he stepped back from government roles to focus on his leadership position. After the 2021 election, he was appointed Cabinet Secretary for Justice and Veterans. Brown’s background includes military service as a Royal Marines commando, with experience in the Falklands War. He was born in Edinburgh and attended the University of Dundee, also studying in Canada. His previous roles include serving on Clackmannanshire Council and leading the council between 1999 and 2003.
