Kathleen Hylda Valerie Booth was a British computer scientist and mathematician known for her pioneering contributions to early computer technology. She co-wrote the first assembly language and played a key role in the co-design of the assembler and autocode for the initial computer systems developed at Birkbeck College, University of London. Throughout her career, she contributed to the design of three different machines, including the ARC (Automatic Relay Calculator), SEC (Simple Electronic Computer), and APE(X)C.
