Kate Elizabeth Winslet is an English actress born on October 5, 1975. She studied drama at the Redroofs Theatre School and made her first screen appearance at age fifteen in the British television series Dark Season. Her film debut was in Heavenly Creatures in 1994, where she played a teenage murderess, and she gained early acclaim with a BAFTA Award for her role as Marianne Dashwood in Sense and Sensibility in 1995. Winslet achieved international prominence with her leading role in James Cameron's Titanic in 1997, which was at that time the highest-grossing film worldwide. Following this success, she shifted focus to critically acclaimed period films such as Quills and Iris. A notable career shift occurred with her performance in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind in 2004, where she appeared against type in a contemporary setting. She further gained recognition for roles in films including Finding Neverland, Little Children, The Holiday, Revolutionary Road, and The Reader.
