Karoline Claire Leavitt is an American political spokesperson who has been serving as the 36th White House press secretary since 2025. A member of the Republican Party, she has a background in politics and communication, having graduated from Saint Anselm College in 2019. Leavitt's early career included an internship in the White House Office of Presidential Correspondence, where she later became associate director. In June 2020, she assumed the role of assistant White House press secretary. Following the 2020 presidential election, she became a communications director for New York congresswoman Elise Stefanik. In 2021, Leavitt announced her candidacy for the United States House of Representatives in New Hampshire's first congressional district, establishing herself as a pro-Trump candidate. Although she won the Republican primary, she was defeated by the incumbent Democrat Chris Pappas in the general election. Leavitt also served as a spokeswoman for MAGA Inc., Donald Trump's super PAC, and was the press secretary for his 2024 presidential campaign. In November 2024, President-elect Trump appointed her as White House press secretary, making her the youngest person to hold the position in U.S. history.
