Karen Kingsbury is an American Christian novelist and filmmaker born on June 8, 1963, in Fairfax, Virginia. She initially worked as a sports writer for the Los Angeles Times and the Los Angeles Daily News. Her first book, Missy's Murder, published in 1991, was based on a murder story she covered in Los Angeles. During her early career, she also had an article published in People Magazine. Kingsbury has authored or co-written nearly 100 novels and short stories, with her works in print totaling nearly 13 million copies as of 2008. She is recognized as a number one New York Times and USA Today best-selling author, with her last dozen books reaching top positions on bestseller lists. Several of her novels have been adapted into movies by The Hallmark Channel, including The Bridge, A Time to Dance, and Maggie's Christmas Miracle. Additionally, her Baxter Family series was adapted into a television series by Lightworkers Media and Roma Downey in 2024, available on Prime Video. Beyond her writing, Kingsbury is involved in public speaking, reaching more than 100,000 people annually through national events and engagements.
