John Hunter: podcast appearances and interviews

John Hunter was a Scottish surgeon and one of the most distinguished scientists and surgeons of his time. Known for his advocacy of careful observation and scientific methods in medicine, he was a pioneer in advancing medical knowledge. Hunter's career included assisting his brother William with dissections in London's anatomy school starting in 1748. He quickly became an expert in anatomy and spent several years working as an Army surgeon. He collaborated with the dentist James Spence on tooth transplants and in 1764 founded his own anatomy school in London. Hunter amassed a significant collection of anatomical preparations, including nearly 14,000 specimens that demonstrated the anatomy of humans and other vertebrates, encompassing over 3,000 animals. His contributions to science earned him election as a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1767 and to the American Philosophical Society in 1787. His legacy is preserved through the Hunterian Museum in London and the Hunterian Society of London, which was named in his honor. Throughout his career, Hunter emphasized meticulous observation and scientific rigor, shaping the development of modern surgery and anatomical science.
