John D. Halamka, M.D., M.S., is an American physician and business executive who serves as the president of the Mayo Clinic Platform. He oversees a collection of digital and long-distance health care initiatives at Mayo Clinic. Trained in emergency medicine and medical informatics, Halamka has over 25 years of experience in developing and implementing health care information strategies and policies. His expertise includes artificial intelligence, electronic health record adoption, and the secure sharing of healthcare data to support care coordination, population health, and quality improvement. In 2020, he was elected to the National Academy of Medicine. Prior to his current role, Halamka was the chief information officer at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and continues to practice emergency medicine. He has also held the position of International Healthcare Innovation Professor at Harvard Medical School, where he contributed to planning health care information strategies for the George W. Bush administration, the Obama administration, and various governments worldwide.
