John Glaser: podcast appearances and interviews

John Glaser was a German operatic tenor, voice teacher, and theater official. Born in Berlin in 1888, he began his singing career as a soloist of the Hof- und Domchor and later studied singing in Berlin. His professional stage career commenced in 1911 at Theater Ulm. He subsequently performed at the Landestheater Altenburg and joined the Wrocław Opera in 1912. In 1917, he moved to the Oper Frankfurt, where he remained until the end of his active singing career. Glaser participated in notable productions, including the premiere of Franz Schreker's opera Der Schatzgräber in 1920, where he performed the role of Elis. His guest appearances included performances in Berlin, Munich, Hamburg, Vienna, and at the 1926 Salzburg Festival, where he sang Bacchus in Ariadne auf Naxos. His last stage performance was in 1942, marking his 25th anniversary with the Frankfurt Opera, in which he portrayed Canio in Pagliacci. Following his retirement from performance, Glaser dedicated himself to teaching singing. Later in his life, he served as the honorary president of the Guild of the German Stage from 1961 to 1963. He passed away in 1968, leaving a legacy as a prominent figure in German opera.
