James Kerr, born on July 9, 1959, is a Scottish musician, singer, and songwriter best known as the founding member and lead singer of the rock band Simple Minds. Under his leadership, the band achieved significant commercial success, including the release of hit singles such as Glittering Prize, Someone Somewhere in Summertime, Waterfront, Don't You (Forget About Me), and Alive and Kicking. Their 1989 UK number one single Belfast Child contributed to their popularity. With Kerr as the frontman, Simple Minds secured five UK Albums chart number one albums, including Sparkle in the Rain, Once Upon a Time, and Street Fighting Years, among others. The band has sold over 60 million albums worldwide and was recognized as the most commercially successful Scottish band of the 1980s.
