Gerald Calvin Douglas, born on May 28, 1956, is an American Dobro and lap steel guitar player and record producer. He is widely regarded as one of the finest Dobro players in contemporary acoustic music and is considered the most celebrated and prolific artist in this field. Douglas is a 14-time Grammy Award winner and has been praised by The New York Times as Dobro's matchless contemporary master. He has gained recognition for his innovative work both as a solo artist and as a member of various bands, including Alison Krauss and Union Station and The Earls of Leicester. In addition to his performance career, Douglas has served as a co-director of the Transatlantic Sessions since 1998. His contributions to the genre have solidified his reputation as a significant figure in American acoustic and bluegrass music. In 2024, he was inducted into the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame, acknowledging his impact and influence within the music community.
