Jello Biafra: podcast appearances and interviews

Eric Reed Boucher, known professionally as Jello Biafra, is an American singer, spoken word artist, and political activist. He was the lead singer and songwriter for the San Francisco punk rock band Dead Kennedys, active from 1979 to 1986. The band was recognized for their rapid-fire music and sardonic lyrics that offered social commentary, delivered through Biafra's distinctive voice. Following the band’s breakup, Biafra assumed control of Alternative Tentacles, an independent record label he co-founded in 1979 with East Bay Ray. Biafra's career has also included contributions to the San Francisco punk zine Damage and occasional appearances in films. Although his primary focus has shifted toward spoken word performances in recent years, he has continued to collaborate as a musician. Biafra is known for his political activism, supporting causes through shock tactics, direct action, and pranksterism inspired by the leftist tradition of the Yippies. He is a member of the Green Party of the United States and has run for political office, including a bid for the party’s presidential nomination in 2000 and a campaign for mayor of San Francisco in 1979. Biafra's advocacy includes promoting civil rights and social justice issues. His career has also involved controversy; a 2000 lawsuit found him liable for breach of contract, fraud, and malice relating to withholding royalties from his former bandmates, leading to a significant financial judgment. Despite legal disputes, Biafra remains a prominent figure in the punk and political spheres.
