Jay McCarrol: podcast appearances and interviews

Jay McCarrol, born on August 9, 1983, is a Canadian musician, composer, writer, actor, animator, and comedian. He is best known for his work on the independent web series Nirvana the Band the Show, its spiritual sequel television series Nirvanna the Band the Show, and the feature film Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie. These projects were co-created with filmmaker and lifelong friend Matt Johnson. McCarrol has also contributed to other works including BlackBerry, the animated series Matt & Bird Break Loose, and Tony, the Anthony Bourdain biopic, continuing his collaboration with Johnson and Zapruder. As a composer, he has scored films such as Evan Morgan's The Kid Detective starring Adam Brody and Finn Wolfhard & Billy Bryk's Hell of a Summer. By 2026, he had composed the scores for all of Johnson's feature films. He previously served as the musical director at Second City's Toronto location.
