Edward Jack Butcher was an Australian rules footballer born on 28 October 1914 and passed away on 26 February 1978. He played in the Victorian Football League for the Geelong and South Melbourne clubs between 1938 and 1945. As a versatile player and a left-footer, Butcher was capable of filling various positions on the field, but he is noted for his performances at half-back. During his career, he was associated with Geelong during several seasons before the club went into recess due to World War II, at which point he transferred to South Melbourne.
