Temetrius Jamel Morant, born on August 10, 1999, is an American professional basketball player currently with the Portland Trail Blazers of the National Basketball Association. He played college basketball for the Murray State Racers, where he achieved recognition as a consensus first-team All-American during his sophomore year in 2019. Despite limited interest from NCAA Division I programs and a lack of ranking by recruiting services, Morant was a three-time All-Region Most Valuable Player and earned All-State honors at Crestwood High School in Sumter, South Carolina. At Murray State, he quickly established himself, earning first-team all-conference honors in the Ohio Valley Conference as a freshman. His breakout sophomore season saw him win Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year and lead the NCAA in assists. Notably, he became the first NCAA player in history to average over 20 points and 10 assists per game in a single season. Morant was selected second overall by the Memphis Grizzlies in the 2019 NBA draft and was named the NBA Rookie of the Year in 2020. His performances led to his first NBA All-Star Game appearance as a starter in 2022, and he received the NBA Most Improved Player Award that same season, along with a selection to his first All-NBA Team. Following various off-the-court incidents and seasons affected by injuries, Morant was traded to the Portland Trail Blazers during the 2026 off-season.
