Isabel Wilkerson: podcast appearances and interviews

Isabel Wilkerson is an American journalist and author, born in 1961. She is known for her books The Warmth of Other Suns: The Epic Story of America's Great Migration, published in 2010, and Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents, published in 2020. Wilkerson made history as the first African-American woman to win the Pulitzer Prize for journalism. Her career includes positions such as editor-in-chief of the Howard University college newspaper, internships at the Los Angeles Times and Washington Post, and a role as the Chicago Bureau chief of The New York Times. In addition to her journalism, she has taught at Emory University, Princeton University, Northwestern University, and Boston University. Wilkerson conducted over a thousand interviews for her book The Warmth of Other Suns, which explores the migration of African Americans to northern and western cities during the 20th century. Her 2020 book Caste examines the racial hierarchy in the United States, framing it as a caste system. Both books achieved commercial success and have been recognized as influential works in America’s social history.
