Ilya Sutskever: podcast appearances and interviews

Ilya Sutskever, born in 1986, is a computer scientist specializing in machine learning. He has contributed significantly to deep learning, including developments in sequence-to-sequence learning, reasoning models, GPT models, and work on projects such as CLIP, DALL-E, and AlphaGo. He co-created AlexNet, a convolutional neural network, with Alex Krizhevsky and Geoffrey Hinton, and is recognized as one of the most highly cited computer scientists in history. His research has been awarded the NeurIPS Test of Time Award three times consecutively from 2022 to 2024, and he received the National Academy of Sciences Award for the Industrial Application of Science in 2026. Sutskever co-founded OpenAI, where he served as chief scientist, overseeing research breakthroughs that led to the development of large language models and the launch of ChatGPT. He led research on reasoning models such as o1 and played a prominent role in advancing AI technology. In 2023, he was involved in the board decision that ousted Sam Altman as CEO of OpenAI; although Altman was reinstated shortly afterward, Sutskever subsequently stepped down from the board. In June 2024, he co-founded Safe Superintelligence Inc. with Daniel Gross and Daniel Levy, a company that became valued at over 30 billion dollars within a year.
